What is Creative Therapy?
Healing Through Creative Expression
Creative Therapy is an umbrella term for a group of art based therapies such as art therapy, drama therapy, music therapy, play therapy and therapeutic story writing. It is an evidence based practice providing a safe and creative outlet for children, young people, and adults to work through challenges, process emotions, build confidence and resilience, relieve stress and gain new perspectives.
It can be especially useful in allowing subconscious thoughts and emotions to arise in a safe and supported space for exploration and healing.
Art/ music/ drama/ writing skills are not necessary, as the focus is on creative process, not final product.
One on one sessions are tailored to the individual and may include various modalities for creative expression, such as water colour painting, drawing, nature based art, clay, collage, music, therapeutic story writing or story telling, play, sandtray work, drama and movement.
